Project 1: Food Bank of the Rockies

Advance registration & signed waiver required | Bus transportation, water and snacks provided

Record high inflation and the rising cost of living continue to make food insecurity a challenging issue in our Colorado community. Food Bank of the Rockies is the largest hunger-relief organization in the Rocky Mountain region and the YMCA of Metro Denver is one of its 800 hunger relief partners. By obtaining food from the Food Bank of the Rockies warehouse two to three times per week, the Y is a key site for food distribution through our Beyond Hunger food pantry program at the Southwest YMCA. The food is added to our pantry and each week volunteers and staff provide balanced, nutritious food to the community and individuals of all ages can get a bag of groceries.

NAYDO volunteers will work with Food Bank of the Rockies in a food distribution and/or packing project. In the main warehouse, volunteers may inspect, clean, sort and re-pack perishable and non-perishable food items for distribution to Hunger Relief Partners. Depending on the day, volunteers may also be assigned other specific projects.

Drop-In Onsite Project: Project Angel Heart – Meal Bag Craft Project
This is another way to be involved with Philanthropy Live! this year without leaving the Gaylord!

Consider helping to bring cheer to meal recipients by decorating a meal bag. Drop in, sit down with a meal bag and unleash your creativity. All supplies (bags, markers, crayons, etc.) will be provided. The decorated bags will be delivered back to Project Angel Heart for the estimated 700,000+ meals they will deliver during the year.

Project Angel Heart is a non-profit organization whose volunteers help prepare, package and deliver medically tailored meals to people living with cancer, HIV/AIDs, kidney/heart/lung disease and other severe illnesses. As a result, Project Angel Heart’s meal recipients report better health, less stress and more energy.
